Terrorism is not innovative. It is imitative. From targets to weapons, terrorist groups have strong, repetitive and focused preferences. What happened in Istanbul this week will happen tomorrow in Europe and America.
What the group specializes in doing, it continues to do. Affiliated groups will benefit from the experience and the transfer of training and resources.
Each terrorist operation is a learning experience. As the security services dissect and analyze the terrorists’ behavior, so too do the terrorists study the responses of the security services.
The sophistication of terrorists is blurred by the media’s confusion of one individual blowing himself up with another who provided him/her with the suicide belt. They are not remotely cut from the same cloth.
